The beginnings of Vodka

"Vodka, a spirit made from grains or potatoes and distilled many times, traces its history back to Eastern Europe, especially Poland and Russia. It is the national drink of Russia and Poland, and a strong drink popular in the cold countries of northern Europe. There is some debate about the origin of vodka, but both Poland and Russia claim to be the source of vodka. Early vodka-making may have originated with local farming families, who used crops such as grains and potatoes to produce a highly pure alcoholic beverage by simple distillation.

The traditional brewing method of vodka is to first use potatoes or corn, barley, rye as raw materials, distillation of wine semen up to 95% alcohol, and then make the wine semen flow through a container containing a large number of charcoal, in order to absorb impurities in the liquor (each 10 liters of distillate with 1.5 kg charcoal continuous filtration not less than 8 hours, at least 10 percent of the charcoal should be replaced after 40 hours). Finally diluted with distilled water to 40-50% alcohol.

Traditional vodka can be sold and drunk without aging, and a small amount of fragrant vodka is diluted and then skewered to make it aromatic. Vodka, like gin, is a strong, grain-based drink that does not need to be aged. But vodka is dry and tasteless compared with gin, which has a strong juniper flavour.

The origin of vodka bottles can be traced back to the 18th century. Early vodkas were usually stored and transported in ceramic or wooden barrels, which were not suitable for long-distance transportation and commercial production at the time. With the development of industrialization, the glass process has gradually matured, and glass bottles have become the main containers for storing and selling alcohol. It is said that the earliest use of glass bottles of vodka appeared in Russia. At that time, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia ordered the unified management of vodka, requiring the use of glass bottles for packaging and sales. This initiative not only improves the quality and hygiene standards of vodka, but also lays the foundation for the promotion and internationalization of vodka.

From its simple beginnings as a glass bottle to today's bottles of all shapes, sizes and designs, vodka bottles have become an important product on the alcohol market. They are not only containers for alcohol, but also a symbol of culture and brand, representing the history, tradition and quality of vodka."
